Glazed Chicken Bao

Ingredients

  • 6-8 Frozen bao/lotus leaf buns
  • 1 lb. Diced chicken
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 Red chili finely minced (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp dark soy sauce

Instructions

  • Heat bao buns according to package instructions.
  • Fry diced chicken at 350F for 3-4 minutes, until it's crisp on the outside and reaches an internal temp of 165°F.
  • In medium saucepan, combine oil, ginger, chili, honey, brown sugar, and dark soy sauce. Bring to simmer and reduce heat.
  • Add fried thigh meat to saucepan with glaze and stir until chicken is coated. Cook for 1-2 minutes to set glaze.
  • Fill prepared bao buns with glazed chicken. Top with desired garnishes, such as: cilantro, sliced chili, scallions, sesame seeds, or crushed peanuts.
